Rangers 6 Astros 1: I like this Rangers team. I like this Rangers team a lot. I like Ian Kinsler. What’s not to like? Last night, Kinsler hit a bomb in the first inning. Know this sports fans: He has hit a bomb in the first and second innings as often this season as all other players did so in 49-year history of the Senators/Rangers franchise. Holy cow! The only Rangers players with home runs in the first and second inning of the same game prior to this season were Dan Shaughnessy’s boy, Carl Everett, and Mark Teixeira.

That was the Phillies’ fifth loss this season in which they led in the ninth inning or later. Or this? That’s the highest total in the majors in 2009. Or this? That’s a total reversal from last season when the Phillies posted a 92-0 mark when leading in the ninth inning or extras. Be afraid Fightin’ Phils fans. Be very afraid.
North Carolina 11 Southern Miss 4: The Seattle Mariners chose UNC Tarheel Dustin Ackley with the second pick in this year’s draft. It appears the Seattle Mariners chose wisely. Yesterday, Dustin Ackley did his best impersonation of a tommy-gun and sprayed hits all over the dang place. Yesterday, Dustin Ackley went 5-6 and now has now has twenty-seven hits in fourteen College World Series games. Yowza! You know what that means boys and girls? That means Dustin Ackley is now the all-time hits leader in CWS. Yowza! It means Mariners fans finally have something to look forward to. You can have Stephen Strasburg, I’ll take this lean mean hit machine.
